Evanston native Sheila McGuire has been named the new assistant director at Uinta B.O.C.E.S. #1. Sheila has worked at B.O.C.E.S. since 2014, doing everything from teaching adult education high school equivalency classes to case management for work readiness programs to working on grant funding and more. You may also know Sheila from her work as a reporter at the Uinta County Herald, where she still works on a very part-time basis. Sheila loves her work at B.O.C.E.S. for many reasons, including that she feels she can really relate to local higher education students. Sheila is currently working on her doctorate in higher education administration through University of Wyoming outreach and is living proof that people can live and work in Evanston and obtain college degrees without leaving home. She earned her associate’s degree in sociology in 2009 through Western Wyoming Community College outreach, her bachelor’s degree in social science through UW outreach in 2012, and her master’s degree in public administration through UW outreach in 2015– all while working and raising a family. Her husband Brian also earned his bachelor’s through UW outreach, graduating in the spring of 2020. Sheila has three children, two of whom are currently attending Evanston K-12 schools. She has been actively involved in PTA at the local and state level and in Evanston youth soccer programs and volunteers and serves on multiple local nonprofit boards. When she’s not working, you’ll find her running around town attending events for her kids or traveling to take in live theater or concerts or visiting national parks. Sheila has a passion for her community and helping local folks reach their educational goals, whether that be in high school equivalency, higher education, or certificated vocational programs. She hopes to use her own educational experiences as an example of the multiple educational opportunities available right here in Evanston through Uinta B.O.C.E.S. #1.
