JUMPSTART EVANSTON is a competition for Evanston residents interested in starting and/or growing a business.
JUMPSTART EVANSTON offers FREE business classes taught by local, successful professionals to coach and inspire competitors to achieve their own entrepreneurial dreams.

The mission of JUMPSTART EVANSTON is to provide education and resources to entrepreneurs to help them start and grow their businesses; while providing jobs, spurring economic development, and improving the quality of life in our community.
Orientation:
January 19, 2022 (Wednesday):
This is an opportunity to learn more about the program and the upcoming classes. The criteria for being able to participate in the “competition” and access to grant funds will also be discussed. Tonight, you will have a chance to meet your fellow classmates with whom you will be sharing time over the next couple of months.
Writing A Business Plan (Class #1):

Gain access to business plan templates the research capabilities of SBDC and the components of writing your own business plan.
Business Accounting / CPA (Class #2):
February 2, 2022 (Wednesday):
Presented by Nathan Sponenburgh of Sponenburgh and Co.
Learn the basics of business accounting and the tools necessary to keep your business on track and chart your progress.
Business Structure & Legal Concepts (Class #3):
February 9, 2022 (Wednesday):

Discuss the different types of business structures (LLC, S Corp, sole proprietorships, etc.) and the legal risks you have as a business owner.
Banking & Financing (Class #4):

Presented by David Benton and Ben Bell of First Bank of Evanston & Brent Hatch w/ Lincoln Uinta Revolving Fund.
Learn how to access financing, interpret, and track the financial records for your business, and how to create projections for future growth.
Marketing & Sales (Class #5):

Get information on the many types of marketing tools and what will work best for your business. Quality customer service training will also be discussed.
Expanding Your Business (Class #6):

A discussion of the many ways to make your business a success and how to adapt your methods in a changing world.
Coaches Q&A and Mixer:
March 3, 2022 (Thursday):
All coaches will be present to answer questions and enjoy a night celebrating the conclusion of the program.

JUMPSTART EVANSTON competitors will present their business plans to a group of local professionals, serving as judges. Competitors have 20 minutes to present their business concepts to the judging panel followed by 40 minutes of questions from the judges.
The judges will review the written business plan and score the individual(s) during the presentation. Based on independent scoring from all judges, the winner will be announced by the end of the evening (April 2nd).
The winner(s) will have access to Jumpstart funding (amount will vary).
