The Uinta B.O.C.E.S. #1 Education Center is a unique institution that provides comprehensive educational services to area residents. A person can receive basic skills development leading to a GED© , associate degrees provided by our partner Western Wyoming Community College (WWCC), safety training for area industry, resources for cancer screening and education, tobacco prevention, personal enrichment, bachelor’s and advanced degrees.
Over the past several years, Western Wyoming Community College Evanston Outreach course offerings and degree opportunities have risen dramatically. The Evanston Outreach program offers a range of academic transfer and vocational degrees to help the student achieve their educational goals. Five Universities have written transfer agreements with WWCC to provide opportunities to complete a bachelor’s or master’s degree while living at home. Dual credit and concurrent enrollment classes for high school students are available also. Delivery methods vary, including local instructors, compressed video or satellite, television and on-line. In addition to WWCC opportunities, the Education Center offers bachelors and master’s degree opportunities for area residents through partnerships with the University of Wyoming, Utah State University and Western Governors University. Our College and Career Readiness Program is designed to assist individuals in increasing their skill levels in language arts writing, language arts reading, math, social studies and science. These services are offered at no charge to assist in preparation for a GED©, college entrance exams or math placement tests. Our program has been recognized as a top performer in the state. All students are encouraged to continue on with post-secondary education or workforce training. English as a Second Language services are also offered through the College and Career Readiness Program. Classes are interactive and focus largely on improving speaking and listening skills, although reading and writing exercises are included.
Through a partnership with the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, the Education Center has developed a program to assist young people in obtaining skills that will help them be successful in the future as well as obtain their GED© . This program has assisted over 50 individuals in getting their GED© with many of them continuing to pursue their future goals through our partner, Western Wyoming Community College.
The B.O.C.E.S. Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency Training (BOOST) program is an employment training program for youth age 16 to 21 years of age. Trainees in the program study:
• GED© Preparation and remediation for Math, Reading and Writing skills.
• Employment training to include portfolio development, finance and work habits, interviewing skills and resume and application skills.
• Life skills training to include issues of substance abuse, communication skills, risk taking behavior, conflict resolution, decision making, stress reduction and anger management.
Trainees receive funding from State of Wyoming Department of Workforce Services or State of Wyoming Department of Vocational Rehabilitation. Students must be accepted by Workforce Services and the Education Center to ensure a place in the program.
